Exemplaire sur un flan bien centré. Beau buste de Constantin Ier. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Belle patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Constantinus Pius Felix Augustus", (L’empereur césar Constantin pieux heureux auguste.

Reverse legend : IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG NN// .TS.E..
Reverse description : Jupiter nu debout à gauche, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre de la gauche ; dans le champ à gauche, un aigle.
Reverse translation : “Iovi Conservatori Augustorum Nostrorum”, (À Jupiter protecteur de nos augustes).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Épaulière très particulière. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons with rounded ends. Very distinctive shoulder pad. Thin pteryges under the paludamentum

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
