Exemplaire sur un flan parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait. Joli revers de style fin. Petite faiblesse sur la légende de droit. Belle patine marron foncé lissée

Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Constantin à droite avec pan de paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant (B*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : SOLI INVI-CTO COMITI/ T|F// PLN.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié à demi nu, marchant à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).
Commentary
Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse lisse ornée de globules. Épaulière cloutée. Ptéryges à peine visibles sous le paludamentum. Au revers les lettres T|F du champ peuvent se développer par “Temporum Felicitas”, les temps heureux.

Augustus
Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
