Comtat-VENAISSIN - CLEMENT VI (Pierre Roger de Beaufort)

(07/05/1342-06/12/1352)

French Benedictine native Limousin, he was elected Pope May 7, 1342 and dedicated on May 19 next. In 1348, he bought Avignon and the Comtat. He decorated the palace of Benedict XII and was the patron of artists and writers such as Petrarch. He died December 6, 1352 and was buried at La Chaise-Dieu.
