L'ermitage Notre-Dame se situe sur la commune de Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via dans le département des Pyrénées-Orientales. L'ermitage comporte un camaril, dans lequel est abritée la statue de la Vierge de Font-Romeu, sculpture romane datée du xiie siècle. Cette pièce de 4 m par 4 est accolée à l'est de l'église, dont elle est séparée par le retable du maître-autel. Elle a été élevée à l'emplacement de l'oratoire primitif au XVIIIe siècle, et décorée par l'artiste Joseph Sunyer à la même époque. Le mobilier qui l'orne est classé Monument historique depuis 1928.

Le couronnement de cette Vierge chérie des Roussillonnais a donné lieu à une grande fête religieuse mêlée de régionalisme. C’est l’évêque de Perpignan Jules de Carsalade Du Pont qui dépose sur la statue romane les couronnes conçues par Jean Velzy, le 8 septembre 1926.
Dans cet ouvrage, un dessin de l’artiste roussillonnais Han Coll montre l’évêque de Perpignan entouré de nombreux prélats dont le cardinal Dubois couronnant la statue en plein air devant une foule immense.
Jean Velzy (1882-1944) fait fabriquer les deux couronnes dans les ateliers Edy à Paris après que l’autorité ecclésiastique ait donné son accord par rapport aux dessins préparatoires. Photographiés, ces dessins montrent un repentir sur la couronne de la Vierge dont le décor central est rabaissé tout en intégrant une pierre taillée..
