Historical background


(Ve - fourth century BC)

Soloi was a very important city on the Cilician coast near Zepyrion between Tarsus and Cilicia Trachea and Cilicia Pedias was perhaps founded at the instigation of Rhodes, but the city also appears to have links with Athens. The city was destroyed by Tigranes I, King of Armenia after 83 BC The city was refounded as the Pompeiopolis by Pompey in 66 BC.
