Historical background

CILICIE - NAGIDOS

(Fourth century BC)

Nagidos was located on the Cilician coast about forty kilometers west of Célendéris. Founded by the Samians, it experienced a significant economic development from the late fifth century BC The protective gods of the city were Dionysus and Aphrodite, recalling the Greek origin of the city, without oriental contribution to departure. Pharnabazes single currency seems to have beaten Nagidos. Coinage stops at the Macedonian conquest in 333 BC.
