La Rétrocession de Hong Kong à la Chine a lieu le 1er juillet 1997. Cela met fin au bail de 99 ans établi entre la Dynastie Qing et l'Empire Britannique, au sein de trois traités inégaux, dont le premier eût lieu à la fin de la guerre de l'opium. Il s'agit du Traité de Nankin (29 août 1842), de la Convention de Pékin (24 octobre 1860), et de la Convention pour l'extension du territoire de Hong Kong (9 juin 1898), repoussant à chaque fois les 99 ans du bail.
The return of Hong Kong to China took place on 1 July 1997. This ended the 99-year lease established between the Qing Dynasty and the British Empire, in three unequal treaties, the first of which took place at the end of the Opium War. These were the Treaty of Nanking (29 August 1842), the Convention of Peking (24 October 1860), and the Convention for the Extension of the Territory of Hong Kong (9 June 1898), each extending the 99-year lease.
