Ce denier est frappé sur un flan large et légèrement irrégulier et voilé. Exemplaire recouvert d’une patine grise hétérogène de médaillier

Commentary


Georges Depeyrot ne recense qu’un seul autre exemplaire de ce denier avec deux besants en cantonnement de la croix du revers d’après un exemplaire conservé à New-York. En plus de l’exemplaire que nous proposons à la vente nous en connaissons un troisième exemplaire.

Charles the Bald

(20/06/840-6/10/877)

Charles the Bald became king on the death of his father, Louis the Pious, 20 June 840. The Treaty of Verdun in 843, the Carolingian empire was divided between the three son Louis. Lothar receives Lotharingia, Louis the German and Charles Francia Orientalis Francia Occidentalis. Type in the Christian legend is prior to 864 and the reform of the Edict of Pîtres, but it must be after 843. It has been struck between 850 and 860.
