Historical background

CHAMPAGNE - BISHOPRIC Meaux - BOUCHARD

(1120-1134)

Meaux was a Carolingian workshop after the edict of Pistres. Meaux, there were five different types of currencies which estévenant imitated Besançon. The episcopal mint does not seem to start before the eleventh century. We have currencies for Gauthier II (1145-1202), Bouchard, Renaud (1158-1161), Etienne (1162-1171) and Pierre (1172-1174). The episcopate Bouchard sits between those of Manasses I (1103-1120) and Manasses II (1134-1159).
