Commentary
En 1965, Jean-Bedel Bokassa renverseson cousin David Dacko. Devenue président, il s’auto-proclame président à vie en 1972, maréchal en 1974 et finalement empereur le 4 décembre 1977. Il est renversé par les troupes françaises en 1979. Les monnaies de 100 francs “Empire Centrafricain” ont peu circulé et ont été retirées peu après.

After becoming president, he proclaimed himself president for life in 1972, field marshal in 1974, and finally emperor on December 4, 1977. He was overthrown by French troops in 1979. The 100-franc “Central African Empire” coins circulated little and were withdrawn shortly afterward.
