Carin was raised to 283 Augustat in March. After the death of Carus, he shared power with his brother Numerian. After his death, he had to struggle against the usurpation of Julian of Pannonia he eliminated in Verona. He then had to turn against Diocletian, who had been elected after the death of Numerian East. Diocletian was defeated at Margus in June or July 285, but Carin was assassinated, leaving Diocletian sole master of the Roman Empire.
