Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un flan très large, ovale, bien centré des deux côtés. Tête d’Apollon particulière avec une importante cassure de coin sur le visage. Joli revers, bien venu à la frappe. Patine gris foncé avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Tête radiée d'Hélios de trois-quarts de face à droite.

Commentary
Avec ce magistrat (Eragoras) nous avons seulement un exemplaire provenant de la vente Bauer (Rochester) de 1941 (coll. Gillette) de mêmes coins que notre exemplaire. Cassure de coin sur la figure au droit.

Historical background
CARIA - CARIAN ISLANDS - RHODES
(2nd - 1st century BC)
After the Peace of Apamea in 188 BC, Rhodes regained its independence. The island experienced twenty years of prosperity until the Romans proclaimed Delos a free port in 167 BC after the defeat of Perseus, king of Macedonia. The Rhodian fleet had supported the Macedonian king. Rhodian trade declined after this date. In 88 BC after the massacre of 80,000 Romans and Italians in Asia Minor, Mithridates VI, king of Pontus besieged Rhodes, without success.
