Exemplaire sur un flan large, bien centré des deux côtés. Belle tête d’Apollon, bien venu à la frappe, . Revers de style fin, complet. Belle patine grise superficielle avec des reflets dorés

Commentary
Avec ce magistrat (Héliodore) nous avons trois combinaisons avec deux coins de droit et deux coins de revers pour quatre exemplaires. Mêmes coin de droit que l’exemplaire de la collection von Aulock (n° 2836). Le coin de revers semble nouveau.
With this magistrate (Heliodorus) we have three combinations with two obverse and two reverse dies for four examples. Same obverse dies as the copy in the von Aulock collection (no. 2836). The reverse die seems new.

(2nd - 1st century BC)
After the Peace of Apamea in 188 BC, Rhodes regained its independence. The island experienced twenty years of prosperity until the Romans proclaimed Delos a free port in 167 BC after the defeat of Perseus, king of Macedonia. The Rhodian fleet had supported the Macedonian king. Rhodian trade declined after this date. In 88 BC after the massacre of 80,000 Romans and Italians in Asia Minor, Mithridates VI, king of Pontus besieged Rhodes, without success.
