(Second century BC)

In addition to the island of Rhodes and the eponymous capital founded in 408-407 BC, the Rhodian thalassocracy had on the coast of Asia, a territory which extended its power (Perea). Rhodes was an early ally to the Romans and Attalids against the expansionist Antigonid and Seleucids. She brought a naval support to Rome during the Second Macedonian War against Philip V. It was the same in the struggle between the Romans and Antiochus III. Peace of Apamea in 188 BC grew continental territroires Rhodians in Caria and Lycia. But the unfortunate choice of Rhodes during the third war against Perseus of Macedonia (171-168 BC) made them lose most of their acquisitions Peace of Apamea. The Romans declared Delos, city and free port to compete Rhodes which put a halt to the expansion and business activities of the Rhodians.
