Monnaie sur un flan bien centré des deux côtés. Joli buste à l’usure régulière. Traces de circulation beaucoup plus importantes au revers, mais il reste bien identifiable. Patine marron

CARAUSIUS

(late 286-293)

Carausius is named commander-in-chief of the fleet in charge of fighting against Frankish and Breton pirates. Proclaimed august in 286, he seized Brittany and part of the west coast of northern Gaul, between Scheldt and Seine. He was assassinated at the end of 293 by Allectus, his praetorian prefect.
