BRITAIN - Durotriges
(First century BC - first century AD)
Durotriges the occupied territories that correspond to the current Dorset and parts of Somerset, Wiltshire and West Hampshire, neighboring Atrebates and Regni. The Avon was the eastern frontier of their kingdom. The Durotriges separated in northern Dobunni the Salisbury Plain. The names of the kings of Durotriges does not reach us. They maintained trade relations with their neighbors and armoricains were excellent sailors. After the defeat of the Veneti 57 BC, they found themselves isolated and relations with the Continent were interrupted. They fiercely resisted the Roman invasion. (Kruta: 589).
