Historical background

BRITAIN - Duchy of Brittany - JEAN V

(1399-1442)

John V (1389-1442) succeeded his father at the age of 10 while Philip the Bold is declared regent of the duchy. Major in 1404, Jean paid homage to Charles VI. It will squeeze between Charles VI, the dukes of Burgundy, John the Fearless, Philip the Good and Henry V. He does not participate in the Battle of Agincourt. His reign was marred by the fight against family Penthièvre. He pays tribute to Charles VII, approximates Bedford and promises to support Henry VI, then abandons the English party. He died in 1442.
