BOURBONNAIS - PRIORY OF SOUVIGNY SIRES AND BOURBON - BEATRICE OF BURGUNDY AND ROBERT DE CLERMONT

(1272-1310)

Beatrice of Burgundy succeeded Agnes de Dampierre, sister Mahaut II (1249-1262). Agnes married John of Burgundy, brother of Eudes of Burgundy, husband Mahaut II. Beatrice married Robert de Clermont (1256-1317), sixth son of Louis IX and Marguerite of Provence. First Lord of Bourbon, he was created Duke of Bourbon. Louis I of Bourbon said the lame succeeded his mother, Beatrice died in 1310. Louis de Clermont was insane after a blow on the head received in a tournament (cf. The Accursed Kings). Robert de Clermont is the ancestor of Henri IV.
