Cette pièce de 8 Reales frappée à Potosi sous Philippe IV a été réutilisée et contremarquée pour le Brésil avec un poinçon “600” pour 600 Réis sous le règne d’Alphonse VI du Portugal.

BOLIVIA - KINGDOM OF SPAIN - PHILIPPE IV

(1621-1665)

Philip IV of Spain (1605-1665) was the son of Philip III and Margaret of Austria. He became king in his father's death in 1621, the year he married Elizabeth of France (1602-1644), the daughter of Henry IV and Marie de Medici. He is the brother of Anne of Austria, wife of Louis XIII, and the father of Maria Theresa, wife of Louis XIV. Much of his reign is going to happen in the fight against France. From 1635, Spain entered the Thirty Years War. After the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, the continuing war between France and Spain, and ends only the Peace of the Pyrenees in 1659. The France finally lost Catalonia, but acquires Roussillon and Cerdagne. Mazarin and Anne of Austria Spanish arrange the marriage of Louis XIV with the Infanta Maria Theresa whom he married in Saint-Jean-de-Luz in 1660. Widowed, Philip IV marries Mariana of Austria, the sister of Leopold I born with a sick son, the future Charles II of Spain (1665-1700), origin of the war of Spanish Succession.
