Historical background

BERRY - LORDSHIP OF VIERZON - HERVÉ I

(1144-1192)

Thibaut le Vieux had seized Vierzon around 925. Eudes I of Blois (975/978-996) placed Humbaud le Twisted as a vassal there. The lords of Vierzon remained under the tutelage of the house of Blois until the end of the 13th century. The seigniory then passed into the house of Brabant with Geoffroy (1280-1302). It was Hervé I (1144-1192) who introduced the fleur-de-lis coinage.
