Triens sur un flan large et voilé, avec un léger manque de métal. Or pâle avec de très beaux reliefs

Commentary

Si l’attribution de cet exemplaire avec la légende BAIOCAS ne laisse aucun doute, ce type précis semble manquer aux ouvrages de référence. Les deux seuls triens de Bayeux avec une croix ancrée sont au nom du monétaire ...IADVS ou ...IDRADVS (B. 608) et AVDERANVS (B. 609, qui a la croix ancrée au droit). Cet exemplaire présente une tête très atypique, formée de quatre vagues pointées de part et d’autre d’un axe vertical bouleté. Pour d’autres monnaies, J. Lafaurie décrit ce genre de motif comme une feuille de vesce (?).
While the attribution of this example with the legend BAIOCAS leaves no doubt, this specific type seems to be missing from reference works. The only two triens from Bayeux with an anchored cross are in the name of the mint ...IADVS or ...IDRADVS (B. 608) and AVDERANVS (B. 609, which has the anchored cross on the obverse). This example has a very atypical head, formed of four waves pointed on either side of a vertical ball-shaped axis. For other coins, J. Lafaurie describes this type of motif as a vetch leaf (?)
