Cette couronne d’argent est frappée sur un flan assez large laissant apparaître une bonne partie des grènetis extérieurs. Les reliefs sont nets sur les deux faces et une jolie patine grise recouvre les deux faces de cet exemplaire

Obverse description : Écu couronné à multiples quartiers, brochant sur une aigle bicéphale nimbée et couronnée, entourée du collier de l’ordre de la Toison d’or coupant la légende à 6 heures.

Obverse translation : (François, par la grâce de Dieu, empereur romain toujours Auguste).

Reverse legend : GERM. JERO. REX LOTH. BAR. MAG. H ET. DUX 1765.

Reverse description : Croix formée de deux sarments entrecroisés (Bourgogne), accostée de quatre couronnes, Empire, Autriche, Hongrie, Bohême.

Reverse translation : (roi de Germanie, Jérusalem, Lorraine, Bar, grand duc d'Étrurie).

AUSTRIAN NETHERLANDS - DUCHY OF BRABANT - FRANCIS I OF LORRAINE

(1745-1765)

François I (8/12/1708-18/08/1765) was the son of Léopold de Lorraine and Elisabeth Charlotte d'Orléans. He succeeded his father in the duchies of Lorraine and Bar in 1729. In 1736, he renounced his two duchies which he exchanged for the grand duchy of Tuscany (1736-1765) and the promise to succeed Charles VI of Habsburg after having married his daughter Marie-Thérèse (1736). He had a total of sixteen children including Joseph II, Leopold II and Marie-Antoinette, the wife of Louis XVI. He had to fight for five years to obtain the imperial title (1740-1745). Emperor, he remained dominated by his wife and died in 1765.
