Monnaie d’un module exceptionnel, frappé sur un petit flan scyphate avec un éclatement de métal à 7 heures au droit. Frappe centrée mais plat de frappe sur l'œil au droit et sur l’avant du cheval au revers

Obverse description : Tête humaine stylisée à gauche, les cheveux figurés par trois lignes parallèles ; derrière, quatre globules et une croisette ; au-dessous un fleuron ; l’œil est évidé.

Reverse description : Cheval stylisé bondissant à droite, avec les restes de l'aurige au-dessus du cheval ; sous le cheval, un sanglier tourné à droite (un gobule entre les pattes).

Commentary

Si les hémistatère sont assez communs pour ce monnayage, les quarts sont plus exceptionnels !
Connus pour le type au loup, pour le type au sanglier, mais de style réaliste (DT. 2399-2340), le type dégénéré ou géométrique (DT. 2406-2407) n’est pas connu en quart de statère. Cet exemplaire semble pourtant devoir être intégrer auprès de ces hémistatères de la variété 7.
Autre différence frappante, le quart au sanglier DT. 2400 a bien un sanglier au revers mais pas sur la tempe au droit.
Si un quart au poisson a été publié sous le DT. S 2407A, le type classique ne serait pas attesté sans l’exemplaire proposé ici.
While hemistaters are fairly common for this coinage, quarters are more exceptional! Known for the wolf type, for the boar type, but in a realistic style (DT. 2399-2340), the degenerate or geometric type (DT. 2406-2407) is not known as a quarter stater. This example, however, seems to have to be included with these hemistaters of variety 7. Another striking difference is that the quarter stater with the boar DT. 2400 does indeed have a boar on the reverse but not on the temple on the obverse. If a quarter stater with the fish was published under DT. S 2407A, the classical type would not be attested without the example offered here.
