Historical background

ANGOUMOIS - COUNTY OF ANGOULÊME, in the name of Louis IV called "d'Outremer" or "Transmarinus" (936-954)

According to F. Dumas, the counts of Angoulême depended on the counts of Poitiers like the viscounts of Limoges. Guillaume d'Étoupe (932-963) or Guillaume II (963-990) were counts of Poitiers at the end of the 10th century. Two Arnaud succeeded each other at the head of the county in the second half of the 10th century: Arnaud Bouration and Arnaud Manzer who were, in addition, counts of Périgord.
