Très bel exemplaire avec un beau portrait centré et un revers de frappe vigoureuse et bien centrée. Agréable patine grise

Commentary
Ce type 2c de la série D se divise en deux, selon que le poids est lourd ou léger ; avec 0,80g, cet exemplaire est assez léger, ce qui le ferait se rapprocher des dernières émissions. D. M. Metcalf fait remarquer qu'il existe des copies difficiles à reconnaître et que certaine monnaies officielles ont pourtant un style très “pauvre”.
Ce denier probablement frappé à Domburg, est repris comme “Continental runic type”.

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS
(7th - 8th centuries)
If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
