Obverse description : Édouard couronné, en cote de mailles, debout à mi-corps dans une nef vue de profil, tenant l'épée haute de la main droite et de la gauche l'écu écartelé de France et d’Angleterre ; une rose et un drapeau avec la lettre E onciale sur le bateau.
Obverse translation : (Édouard, par la grâce de Dieu, roi de France et d’Angleterre, seigneur d’Irlande).

Reverse legend : (SOLEIL) IHC’X AVT’X TRANSIENSX PER MEDIVMX ILLORV’X IXBAT, (PONCTUATION PAR SIMPLE TRÈFLE ; DEUX TRÈFLES SUPERPOSÉS AVANT IBAT).
Reverse description : Croix feuillue rayonnante en son cœur et contenant une rose à cinq pétales, cantonnée de quatre léopards couronnés ; le tout dans un octolobe cantonné de huit petits trèfles.

ENGLAND - ENGLAND UNITED - EDWARD IV

(1461-1470 and 1471-1483)

Edward IV (1442-1483) was the son of Richard, Duke of York, and is descended from Edward III. It reverses in 1461 Henry VI who must take refuge in France. It is driven by the same Henry VI and Warwick in 1470. This is the beginning of the Wars of the Roses that will last until 1485. Warwick and Prince of Wales were killed at the Battle of Barnett in 1471. Henry VI is murdered. Edward IV is restored. He died suddenly in 1483. His son Edward V and Richard of York were murdered in the Tower of London in 1483, by their uncle Richard III (1452-1485). Richard III was killed at Bosworth in 1485 by his rival Henry Tudor (1457-1509) who married Elizabeth (1466-1503), daughter of Edward IV, who became king under the name of Henry VII.
