Commentary

D’après Lecompte, cette monnaie fut frappée suite à un édit de juin 1721 enregistré par la Cour des monnaies de Paris le 8 juillet 1721. 534.000 exemplaires auraient été envoyés au Canada mais furent retournés en France en 1726, les colons ne désirant pas utiliser cette dénomination. Elles furent ensuite réexpédiées vers la Louisiane à un cours de 6 deniers. Cette dénomination ne fut frappée que dans les ateliers de Rouen et de La Rochelle, villes disposant d’infrastructures portuaire.
According to Lecompte, this coin was minted following an edict of June 1721 registered by the Cour des monnaies de Paris on July 8, 1721. 534,000 examples were reportedly sent to Canada but were returned to France in 1726, as the colonists did not wish to use this denomination. They were then reshipped to Louisiana at a rate of 6 deniers. This denomination was only minted in the mints of Rouen and La Rochelle, cities with port infrastructure.
