Obverse translation : "Imperator Æmilianus Pius Felix Augustus", (L'empereur Émilien pieux et heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : ROMAE AETERN.

Reverse description : Roma (Rome), casquée et drapée debout à gauche, tenant un globe surmonté d’un phénix de la main droite et un sceptre transversal de la main gauche ; derrière, un bouclier.

Reverse translation : “Romæ Æternæ”, (À Rome éternelle).

Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges à peine visibles sous le paludamentum.

Emilian was governor of Moesia in 252, when Trebonian Galle entrusted him with the mission of repelling the Goths who had broken the Danubian limes. Emilien succeeds; he is proclaimed emperor by his troops. He marched on Italy and challenged Trebonian Galle and Volusian at Terni. Recognized by the Senate, he was finally assassinated in Spoleto by his soldiers who joined Valerian I.
