Commentary
An exceptional pair of original large-format gouaches by Clément Serveau. Each bears his studio stamp and is mounted on cardboard. On the back of the front, \\\"Clément Serveau 1922.\\\" While the front is quite similar to the 1946 20F, the back is completely different. (The gouaches are 23cm x 14cm in size).

Many trials of the 20 Francs Science et Travail were made before the final type was chosen. Clément Serveau was entrusted with its design as early as 1922. It was placed in circulation 17 years later for only a little more than two years. During this long design period, the vignette, colors and engraver changed a number of times. A lot of documents thus resulted from these changes. We haven't listed them all here, but some of them may be found in our records (cgb.fr) under reference F.12.00Ec
