Agathokles, tyrant of Syracuse (317-305 avant J.-C.)

Agathokles had seized power in Syracuse in 317 BC and took the title of king in 305 BC In 310, the tyrant invaded North Africa and attack Carthage, but it is defeated in 307 and must retire in Sicily. Peace, signed the following year with the hereditary enemy, devotes the Agathokles hegemony over the whole of Sicily.
