Historical background

SICILY - Agrigento

(IV - III century BC)

Agrigento was destroyed in 406 BC, during the Carthaginian invasion. It was however rebuilt, but never regained its former glory. The city found itself caught in the conflict between the Carthaginians and the Romans during the first two Punic (261-241 BC and 221-201 BC). The Romans took possession of Agrigento in 210 BC, during the conquest of Sicily.
