Historical background

UNITED OSTROGOTH - Odoacer

(23/08/476-15/03/493)

Mint on behalf of Zeno

Odoacer, chief of the Heruli, overthrew the last western emperor, Romulus Augustus. He sent the imperial insignia to Constantinople and in return, received the insignia of patrician. After the death of Zeno in 491, Odoacer clashed with Anastasius and was finally overthrown and eliminated by Theodoric, another Ostrogoth.
