Commentary

Lors de son passage en vente chez Vinchon en 1999, ce triens était classé comme “Suèves, 420-585, imitation au nom de Valentinien III”.
Le prototype de cette monnaie est un triens de Rome ou de Ravènes.

Many triens imitate the type of imperial coins of Valentinian III (425-455). Traditionally those with victory in profile are attributed to the Visigoths and Burgundians, those with victory in front of the Ostrogoths. The pseudo-imperial series attributed to the Visigoths are dated 417-507 for Gaul and 507-580 for Spain.
