MACRIN

(11/04/217-8/06/218) Marcus Opellius Macrinus

Macrinus was born in 164 in Cherchell in Mauretania. This is not a senator, but a knight of indigenous origin (Moorish). He was procurator of "res privata" (private fund of the emperor) of Caracalla then prefect of the praetorium from 212. After the assassination of Caracalla 8 April 217, he was acclaimed emperor on April 11. It will never come to Rome and rest at Antioch. He deify Caracalla, but exile Julia Domna who left to die. He took the title of Severus to rally supporters of the Severan family and gives the praenomen of Antoninus to his son, Diaduménien, which is promoted Caesar. Trying to reconcile everyone he encountered the army regrets Caracalla. Soldiers stationed at Emesa, Elagabalus proclaim May 16 218. Defeated in June, Macrinus fled. Learning of the death of Diaduménien, he tries to commit suicide by jumping from his chariot and was completed by his own soldiers.
