Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Couple âgé, vêtu à l’antique, assis sur un banc contre le tronc d’un arbre. Ils contemplent la campagne à gauche. L’époux s’appuie sur une longue canne et tient son épouse par la taille. En bas à gauche, signature : RENE BAUDICHON.

Reverse

Reverse legend : (LIS) / 4. JVIN / 1872-1932 / - / LAL.
Reverse description : Un enfant nu, de dos, cueille une pomme sur un arbre dont le tronc s’entrecroise à un autre. Signature monogramme à gauche.

Les plaquettes d’anniversaires de mariage apparaissent à partir de 1887 simultanément aux plaquettes de mariage.

Historical background

LOVE AND MARRIAGE

It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
