Louis XV succeeded Louis XIV on 1 September 1715 and Philippe d'Orléans is only regent. The Quadruple Alliance in 1717 aims to maintain the European balance with France, Austria, England and the United Provinces. During his visit to France, Tsar Peter I signed a bilateral treaty agreement. In 1718, Abbe Dubois became Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Consecrated Archbishop of Cambrai in 1720, Prime Minister in 1722, he died Aug. 10, 1723. France declares war on Spain in 1719 to prevent Philip V to overthrow the Regent. Taking San Sebastian and Hondarribia mark the end of hostilities. In 1720, Philip V joined the Quadruple Alliance and renounced the throne of France by the Treaty of Madrid. The first Masonic Lodge was founded in France in 1721. Louis XV was crowned 12 years October 25, 1722. On 15 February 1723 he declared major.
