Locride - Opus

(369-338 BC)

Opus was the capital of the opontienne Locris. She was said to have been founded by Opous. It was the home of Patroclus and Ajax, son of Oileus. The Opontiens fought with Leonidas at Thermopylae. Locrians reached their greatest expansion from the Peace Antalcidas in 386 BC After the victory of Philip II at Chaeronea in 338 BC, the Locrians fell under Macedonian domination.
