Exemplaire sur un petit flan régulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait avec une petite faiblesse de frappe sur le visage de l’empereur. Joli revers de style fin. Belle patine de collection ancienne

Obverse description : Buste casqué, diadémé et cuirassé de face, tenant de la main droite la lance placée sur l'épaule et de la gauche un bouclier orné d'un cavalier bondissant à droite (N'a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Iustinianus Perpetuus Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Justinien perpétuel auguste).

Reverse description : Ange debout de face, les ailes déployées, tenant une croix de la main droite et un globe crucigère de la main gauche ; étoile à huit rais.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Augustorum”, (La victoire des augustes).

Commentary


Casque avec plumet. Diadème perlé. Cuirasse lignée et épaulière décorées. Bouclier orné d’un cavalier galopant à droite, terrassant un ennemi (stylisé).

Justinian I.

Justinian succeeded his uncle Justin in 527 co-regency from April 4 to August 1 527. He reigned with the Empress Theodora. The construction of Hagia Sophia was completed during his reign marks the peak of the Byzantine conquests. Carthage and Africa and part of Numidia were reconquered from the Vandals with the general Belisarius. After a century of domination vandal, the Roman reigned again on the Mediterranean. Belisarius then attacked the Ostrogoths and took Rome on December 9 536. Theodora died in 545. Justinian still reigned twenty years. Childless, his nephew Justin II, who succeeded him.
