Denier complet au droit et au revers, de frappe molle au droit, mais avec un revers de frappe très vigoureuse. patine grise et un peu granuleuse au droit, mais grise avec d’importantes concrétions sombres au revers

Reverse description : Carré perlé, avec un annelet pointé au centre, accosté de trois croisettes bouletées et de trois petis globules posés en triangle, dans les angles.

Commentary


Ce type avec le buste diadémé avec une petite croisette devant le visage est associé à ce revers au carré perlé, mais aussi au revers à l’oiseau posé sur un croix.

Avec ce revers, ce sceat appartient au type 3a de la Série G.

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS

(7th - 8th centuries)

If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
