Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin II César à gauche, vu de trois quarts en avant, la main droite levée, semblan tenir le parazonium de la main gauche (J*4).
Obverse translation : "Constantinus Iunior Nobilissimus Cæsar", (Constantin le jeune très noble césar).

Reverse legend : CAESARVM NOSTRORVM/ VOT/ X// Q*AR.
Reverse description : Légende en deux lignes dans une couronne.
Reverse translation : “Cæsarum Nostrorum/ Votis decennalibus”, (Vœux pour le dixième anniversaire de règne de nos césars).

Commentary


Poids léger. Buste tout à fait inhabituel, tout à fait exceptionnel dans l’attitude de l’Adlocutio. Complètement inédit et non répertorié. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente.

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
