Exemplaire de toute beauté, sur un flan large, ovale et épais, d’un centrage parfait ! Buste exceptionnel en détail au droit et revers de style fin. Patine gris foncé aux reflets métalliques. Monnaie exceptionnelle !

Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Constantin II César à gauche, vu de trois quarts en avant, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et la mappa de la main gauche (I*5 var) ; le buste orné d’une tête de Méduse.
Obverse translation : “Constantinus Iunior Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Constantin le jeune très noble césar).

C’est le second exemplaire recensé pour ce type avec la méduse sur le buste ! Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Épaulière cloutée. Cuirasse cloutée. Ptéryges fines et tombantes. Épaule décorée.

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
