Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type, sur un flan ovale, relativement centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Portrait de toute beauté. Revers de haut relief, bien venu à la frappe. Petite faiblesse de frappe sur les légendes. Magnifique patine marron glacé avec des reflets métalliques. Conserve l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Buste consulaire richement décoré avec la toga picta et la toga palmata. Sur cet exemplaire, l’aigle semble absente du scipio. Au revers le globe est orné d’une double croisette avec deux globules en bas (RMBT., p. 97, n° 12).

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
