Caulonia is an Achaean colony founded in the late seventh century BC Another tradition Caulonia a Croton colony. Caulon, son of Clete amazon is the eponymous hero of the city. The town was finally destroyed by Dionysius of Syracuse in 388 BC Its inhabitants were deported to Syracuse while its territory was annexed by the Locrians. The city of Caulonia was then rebuilt, but never regained its reputation of yesteryear.
