Historical background

AQUITAINE - Bourges - FIXED CURRENCY ON BEHALF OF CHARLES THE BALD EMPEROR

(875-887)

The first Carolingian coins were minted at Bourges name Charlemagne. The workshop was active under Louis the Pious, Pepin I, King of Aquitaine, Charles the Bald, Eudes, Louis IV and finally Lothario who left all their names on the coins of Bourges. The currencies of the workshop and on behalf of Charles the Bald styled Emperor (876-877) appear to have been hit at least ten years after his death. We know indeed currencies Bourges on behalf of Eudes, who began to reign in 888.
