Obverse description : Tête nue d'Antonin le Pieux à droite (O°).
Obverse translation : “Antoninus Augustus Pius Pater Patriæ Tribunicia Potestate Consul tertium”, (Antonin auguste pieux père de la patrie revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la troisième fois).

Reverse


Reverse legend : AVRELIVS CAES AVG PII F COS.
Reverse description : Buste tête nue, drapé de Marc Aurèle César à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A°21).
Reverse translation : “Aurelius Cæsar Augusti Pii Filius Consul”, (Aurèle césar fils de pieux auguste consul).

Commentary


Poids extrêmement léger. Fourré ?. Sur cet exemplaires, l’auguste et le césar sont tête nue ce qui semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous présentons un exemplaire de ce type.

(140-161) Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius Cæsar

Antonin adopted on Hadrian's dying, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus recommendation. The mint, Marcus Aurelius appeared in 139. He takes his first consulship on 1 January 140 and its second consulate January 1 145. He married the daughter of Antoninus, Faustina young. The following the birth of their first child year, he received his first power tribune. In 161, he succeeded his adoptive father.
