Monnaie sur un flan un peu court et très mince, fragilisé en bordure. Le droit est de frappe très vigoureuse, mais le revers est de frappe défectueuse. Patine sombre, hétérogène au revers

Cette appellation vient du trésor de Aston Rowant d’où provient les n° 143 et 145 des collections d’Oxford. Dans l’ouvrage de T. Abramson, le Z400 n’est illustré que par deux dessins.

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS

(7th - 8th centuries)

If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
