Reverse description : Croix fourchée coupant la légende posée sur un écu écartelé de France-Angleterre, aux 1 et 4 de trois lis posés 2 et 1, aux 2 et 3 de trois léopards, W et A à gauche et à droite de l’écu.
Reverse translation : (Cité de Canterbury).

Commentary


Cette monnaie appartient à la première partie du monnayage d'Henry VIII (1509-1526). Les lettres A et W au revers font références à l’archevêque William Wahram, décédé en 1532.

ENGLAND - ENGLAND UNITED - HENRY VIII

Henry VIII, second son of Henry VII, was born June 28, 1491 in Greenwich. He ascended the throne after the death of Arthur, his older brother, and married to Catherine of Aragon, by whom he had a daughter, Mary Tudor. In 1511, he joined the Holy League and the France fought alongside Charles Quint. However spared the king of France after the interview Camp Cloth of Gold in 1520 before finally closer to Francis I in 1525. He divorced Catherine of Aragon in 1533 and married Anne Boleyn, this marriage will cause the creation of the Anglican Church. Anne Boleyn was executed in 1536 after being accused of adultery. He married Jane Seymour who died in childbirth in 1537, giving birth to the future Edward VI. Anne of Cleves, his fourth wife, was repudiated in the year of his marriage. He then remarried to Catherine Howard, who was executed in 1542. His last and sixth wife, Catherine Parr, survived him. He died at Westminster January 28, 1547.
